Register your boat on www.boatfax.com.

Make sure where you keep your boat and trailer has:
  • Secure entry gates that require a key or access codes.
  • Adequate security lighting.
  • Neighborhood watch program
  • Surveillance cameras.
  • Security patrol.
  • Is not a remote location.
Make sure your Boat & Trailer is secure:
  • Use a lock and chain on a dinghy/tender, whether stored on or off your boat.
  • Outboard and trolling motors should be securely locked & chained to the boat.
  • Lock cabins, doors and windows.
  • Do not leave your boat key(s) on the boat.
  • Consider installing a hidden electric engine cut-off switch.
  • Consider fitting an anti-theft security system.
  • Take loose items with you.
  • Never leave registration documents, title or identification papers on the boat.
  • Take photos or video of the boat.
  • Keep records of the Hull Identification Number, serial numbers of engine and onboard electronics at home.
  • Keep expensive personal equipment with you: cameras, binoculars, radios, handheld GPS.
  • Try to keep trailers in a locked garage or secure storage facility.
  • Secure your trailer with a hitch and wheel lock – especially if your boat is stored on it.
  • Secure your trailer with a high-quality lock and chain to a strong post, tree or other fixed object.
